ALEXANDRIA, VA Citizens for the Republic PAC today announced their endorsement of American Conservative Union Chairman Matt Schlapp in his bid for the Kansas Senate seat to replace retiring Republican Sen. Pat Roberts who announced his plan to retire at the end of his 2020 term.

Matt Schlapp, a Wichita, Kansas native, who is best known for his work in the conservative movement including servicing as Chairman of the American Conservative Union and organizing its annual Conservative Political Action Conference— the largest gathering of conservatives in the United States— has announced his interest immediately following Sen. Roberts’ statement.

“Matt is a great conservative, and a great leader. He knows the ins and outs of the state, and is a proud and true Kansan who will serve the Sunflower State well.” said Reagan biographer Craig Shirley, Honorary Chairman of CFTR PAC.

“Unlike many in Washington, Matt understands the people in the heartland of the country and knows what they want from their government – less intrusion into their daily lives and more individual liberty.  Matt has fought for those values throughout his career, including battling the Left in the media.

“Kansas– which could become a vital swing state in 2020– deserves to have a leader who can truly make a difference by taking the helm to solve their biggest issues from the ground up.” said Mr. Shirley.

Schlapp came to Washington to work for former Congressman Todd Tiahrt and his accomplishments also includes serving as George W. Bush’s 2000 regional political director with a focus on the Midwest (Missouri, Arkansas, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Kansas and Oklahoma), and later serving as an adviser and political director to the George W. Bush White House.

Citizens for the Republic PAC (www.CFTR.org) is a conservative grassroots organization dedicated to promoting the ideology and political philosophy of Ronald Reagan. Reagan established the original CFTR PAC in 1977. In 2010, a group of Reagan stalwarts re-launched the organization including Ed Meese, Diana Banister, Mari Will, Shirley and others.
